RESIDENTIAL
SPRING CHALET
Perched atop a hill overlooking the river, this residence is conceived as a quiet shelter within nature — a home that fully embraces its scenic surroundings, cool evening breeze, and expansive views. Prioritizing verandahs and terrace spaces over enclosed interiors, the design encourages a slower, more immersive connection with the landscape.
The architecture adopts a raw, unfinished aesthetic through exposed granite walls, uneven plastered surfaces, bare cement flooring, clay tile roofing, and rustic wooden details. This understated material palette creates a simple, cost-effective, and grounded atmosphere, allowing the focus to remain on the surrounding environment.
Natural light and ventilation shape the experience of the house, with carefully placed horizontal openings, wooden louvers, and expansive windows drawing in dramatic light and riverside breezes. The double-layered clay tile roof further enhances thermal comfort and airflow throughout the day.
Deeply rooted in its landscape, the house celebrates the monsoon by channeling rainwater into a central waterfall and pond system designed to recharge groundwater. Native tropical trees, bamboo clusters, rough granite pathways, and permeable surfaces seamlessly integrate the built form with nature, creating a home that feels both timeless and deeply connected to its environment.
