RESIDENTIAL
LILLY
Occupying a compact 4-cent plot, Lily redefines spatial efficiency through a careful balance between built and open spaces. Designed for a family of three, the home embraces the idea of “building less,” with a minimal program and strategically placed terrace gardens that introduce light, ventilation, and breathing space within the limited footprint.
Bordered by paddy fields on two sides, the house remains open and accessible without a compound wall, while subtle design interventions ensure privacy and security. A lily pond marks the transition into the home, leading into a seamless ground floor where the living, dining, and kitchen spaces flow together effortlessly. Upper levels continue this openness through terrace gardens, perforated staircases, and intimate spatial connections.
The second-floor studio, constructed with coconut wood and topped with a steel roof, becomes a quiet retreat overlooking expansive paddy field views. Built using lightweight hollow bricks, exposed concrete, recycled wood, and locally sourced coconut timber, the house maintains a raw and minimal aesthetic while ensuring thermal comfort and efficient space management through integrated furniture.
More than a compact residence, “Lily” is an exploration of light, texture, and experiential living - where small gardens, natural materials, and carefully framed spaces create a poetic and deeply connected home.
