Between Gardens began as a modest renovation of an existing home on a long, narrow site in Nadakkav, Kozhikode. What started as an effort to quickly create a new home for the client's mother gradually evolved into a complete rebuild as structural, spatial, and regulatory constraints made retaining the original house unfeasible. While entirely new, the home remains deeply rooted in the memories and boundaries of what once stood there.

Surrounded by neighbouring residences, the design turns inward, using courtyards, gardens, water, and filtered light to create privacy and a sense of calm. Rather than a single architectural statement, the house unfolds through a sequence of layered spaces, where movement reveals changing views, landscapes, and moments of pause. Courtyards, verandas, and double-height volumes bring light, ventilation, and nature deep into the home.

A palette of exposed brick, Kota stone, wood, granite, and handcrafted details reflects the architectural traditions of North Malabar and coastal Karnataka, realised through close collaboration with local craftsmen.

More than a house, Between Gardens is a home shaped by memory, climate, craft, and everyday life -where architecture and landscape come together to create a warm, timeless place to belong.
