GARDEN HOUSE

Nestled in the serene Pantheerankaavu neighborhood of Calicut, this residence caters to a doctor couple's desire for a tranquil and rejuvenating retreat. Positioned as a centripetal force, the house seamlessly gravitates towards a central garden, serving as both an internal courtyard and an open oasis extending to the boundaries. This verdant sanctuary becomes the focal point, harmonizing the entire home with nature.
The kitchen, strategically positioned towards the south, seamlessly connects to the garden through a welcoming breakfast counter, offering a refreshing space to dine amidst lush greenery. As evening falls, the corridor bordering the courtyard and the living room is adorned with the enchanting play of komorebi, creating a serene ambiance.
The north-facing orientation shields the interior from harsh sunlight, while carefully placed openings ensure ample cross ventilation. With minimal front facade openings, the inward-looking design maintains privacy while inviting a gentle breeze. Dual access, with a dedicated entry for the clinic, enhances functionality.
A narrow stone-clad pathway, flanked by bamboo trees, forms the service entry on the eastern edge, providing shade and privacy. Maximizing a modest 9-cent plot, an additional utility area on the second floor complements the design. In essence, the architecture seamlessly merges with the landscape, portraying a home within a garden rather than a garden within a home.
