MALHAR

Malhar" emerges as a symphony of architecture and nature in a sprawling 6-acre farm near Payyannur, Kannur, North Kerala, fulfilling the longstanding dream of Anoop and Swapna. This weekend retreat, destined to become their permanent home upon returning from Bangalore, is a testament to their shared passions for music and agriculture. Designed to host like-minded guests, the residence embodies an open plan, where the boundaries between architecture and nature seamlessly dissolve.
The subdued and sophisticated tone chosen for the interior of "Malhar", a subtle grey & Kota blend, serves as a deliberate design choice, fostering a profound connection with the beauty of the natural surroundings and the lush landscape that envelopes the residence. The muted backdrop serves not as a distraction but as a canvas, framing the ever-changing views of the outdoors like a work of art. Whether it's the verdant greens during the monsoons, the soft golden glow of sunlight in the mornings, or the serene silhouettes cast by the setting sun, the interior acts as a stage, highlighting the dynamic beauty of nature.
This muted palette serves as a perfect canvas for the vibrant artworks and antique architectural elements curated within the built, allowing them to project out and capture the attention of the inhabitants. The palette also establishes an ambiance of peace, calmness, and silence which can exemplify its beauty by the presence of a user, or during the different times of the day, or during difference seasons, or by just playing the music around.
Moreover, this subdued backdrop becomes a versatile canvas for the interplay of natural light throughout the day. Strategically placed skylights in the foyer and bathroom, adorned with grill patterns flood the interiors with sunlight, casting ever-shifting patterns and shadows that dance along the walls. During different times of the day, the subtle tones adapt, reflecting the evolving hues of the sky and landscape, creating an ever-changing visual spectacle within the confines of the residence.
The carefully curated interiors of "Malhar" boast teak wood and brass-lined furniture, a marriage of elegance and durability. Adorned with lively printed fabrics, these furnishings infuse each room with refreshing bursts of color, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. The strategic use of teak wood not only adds a timeless appeal but also complements the brass accents, resulting in a harmonious blend of warmth and sophistication.
Adding to the cultural tapestry, locally sourced brass decors become distinctive elements within the living space. A homage to Payyannur's rich heritage, these accents not only serve as ornamental additions but also imbue the interior with a sense of regional authenticity. The brass decors, intricately chosen and thoughtfully placed, tell a visual story, connecting the residence to its cultural roots and contributing to the unique identity of "Malhar."
Embracing a harmonious fusion of materials, wood seamlessly integrates into "Malhar's" flooring and panelling, gracefully enhancing the interior with warmth. This marriage of wood and concrete finish not only complements each other but also introduces an element of timeless sophistication. Strategically placed alongside the wood panelling, colourful patterned tiles serve as visual accents, transforming each room into a lively and dynamic space.
In the bathrooms, a serene simplicity takes precedence with finishes in blue, yellow oxides, and granite. This intentional choice creates a connection to nature, evoking a sense of calmness and tranquillity. Echoing the design theme from other areas of the house, patterned tiles in the bathrooms not only maintain consistency but also infuse bursts of color, making these private spaces a harmonious extension of the overall design narrative.
In the interiors of "Malhar," the celebration of life unfolds—embracing music, nature, and the simple joys of living uninhibitedly. The thoughtful design creates an atmosphere that resonates with the passions of its inhabitants, making each moment a harmonious part of the symphony that is "Malhar."
