WALDEN

Nestled amid the scenic beauty of Kerala, Walden is a home strategically situated near the flowing waters of the Karapuzha reservoir, surrounded by lush trees. Respecting the natural splendor of the site, meticulous efforts were made to minimize interference with the surroundings. The layout, characterized by simplicity, maximizes openings on all sides, offering unobstructed views of the serene landscape. The veranda at the front serves as an uninterrupted vantage point.
Bedrooms and the library are thoughtfully oriented to capture expansive views of the surrounding water body. The use of locally sourced materials and innovative design detailing allows the structure to seamlessly integrate with the terrain. The form of the house harmonizes with the natural contours, utilizing a nominal amount of concrete in elements like the truss roof and granite walls. Exposed brick and granite walls, sourced locally, along with vibrant splashes of color, enhance the earthy ambiance.
Prioritizing the play of light and the flow of air, Walden showcases minimalist interiors, furnished with essential necessities, avoiding austerity. Unplastered solid masonry surfaces, exposed brick, bamboo ceilings, and clay tiles contribute to the home's natural feel. Stone projections for candles, bay window seaters, small skylights, and built-in shelves reflect an intention to seamlessly integrate architecture into daily life. Overall, Walden is conceived as an evolving home, growing in harmony with its owners.
